For the past couple of years I have suffered with a creaky cracking sound through the car
To cut a long story short I have traced it to the sunroof. It appears the frame flexes as the car goes over uneven ground with not a sound on normal roads and driving which originally led me to think it was suspension related. I even replaced the rear swaybar bushes. Anyway I have fiddled about with the frame putting in little shims here and there which helps the problem for a couple of days and back it comes.
My question is for those in the know.......Is there any form of hidden bolt or fixing under the roofliner that can be tghtened?
I love this car but I am reaching a point where I will get rid of it purely because of this bloody annoying noise

If I slide the roof back and hold the frame while driving I can feel the frame flex in my hand
Cheeers Chris

Chris,

have a look at this PDF it has the sunroof in it with an exploded diagram.

If you pull the roof lining out of the car (and it's not hard to do) then you will probably see something loose inside.

have a look at this PDf in the meantime.

cheers

Thanks for that
Page 42 - 81 shows just 4 screws securing the frame. I have tightened these as much as I can even though they were not loose
There appears to be nothing under the roof lining
I have just used 4 thicker washers as shims under the slide frame. Took the car out and there is some improvement in the noise but it usually settles back in a couple of days

Do those screws become loose?

If so use loctite on the threads.

Also when you loosen them all off you may need to get a lump of pine and squeeze the assembly to one side for example..while tightening them?

Are you sue it is the sunroof?

I had a squeak that was due to the in fill between the top of the dash and the windscreen.

Simply using double sided tape fixed it.

The thing with the cabin in this car I have found is often the source doesn't sound like where it shouls be.

My brother had a windscreen that was creaking in the front passenger top left corner...they fixed it under warranty though...by removing and reffittting it.

Definitely sunroof
I can actually feel the aluminium frame flex when the noise occurs
Took me 2 years to find the noise. I reckon I adjusted every piece of trim inside the car. Its amazing how the noise from the frame travels the length of the car, I even had my wife sitting in the back and she assured me it was from the rear and underneath hence the new rear sway bar bushes!
I stripped out the boot and even thought it was the jack moving in its little compartment.
The fixing screws are tight and were never loose. Its just the sunroof ally frame flexing. Drives me NUTSSSS!!!

get a tube of silicon, run a bead along the rails then tighten it all up.
