Hi Guys,
New to the Forum, just purchased an Series 2 VRX.
I previously drove a VT Commdore, but after 300,000Kms (Many of them with neglectful owners) she was ready to retire.

I also have a VH Commodore I have been doing up for the last 5 Years, done all the work myself (with a little help from the old man).
Rust Repairs, New Paint, New Seals, Rebuilt Bottom End with new rings and bearings / seals. Mild Cam. Not quite registered yet, and built to a budget of about $3500.

I have ordered a copy of the factory service manual for the VRX - Its doe for a Oil Filter and Trans Fluid Change, but she runs a dream. I had the car dealer change the Timing belt before delivery so she should be happy for a while. She has 108Kms on her.

No Big Plans, just looking after it: maybe a trans cooler, better tunes, and from what i have read, a steady supply of window Regs.

Can anyone word me up on speaker sizes, and Stereo Output and Input.
Is it standard 4 x 50W Out ?
Any chances of wiring up a USB for an Ipod ?

Keen to see what others are doing with theirs.

Sorry for the Pic Quality, Only just got her.

Welcome to the forum mate.

She's a beauty....

Have a search on eBay for the US galant 9G ipod adapter.

as for performance upgrades you'll need at least a couple of thousand to get started in terms of engine output.

but...the Galant intake snorkel under a hundred bucks is popular...see eBay...

Took the car away for the weekend: Averaged 9.6L/100Kms which isn't too bad.

Have uploaded some nicer pictures too.

Cheers for the heads up on the ipod. Might Invest in one of those.

Does anyone have a link or can described the transmission flush process? I have the workshop manual on PDFs but I can't find the right section (It is a collection of poorly named pdfs).

You can do the transmission flush yourself easily enough...helps if you have an assistant.

-basically buy 2x4 litre GENUINE MITSUBISHI trans fluid.
-find the two small hoses coming out of the transmission, disconnect one so that it flows into a bucket.
-run the engine...just on idle...
-empty 4 litres, stop engine and put 4 litres back in...repeat the process as often as you want....I use an old 4 litre container to catch it...and know when I've done 4 litres...

It takes a lot of effort to get all the fluid out of the torque converter...so don't bother trying to do all 14 litres...

Holds about 14 litres...but for me....I change 2/3 twice a year and thats good enough.

You can pay 2-300 bucks for a mechanic to do the same thing if you want.

take the opportunity to look at the old fluid...if you see bits of clutch pack in there...sell the car

Just an update here:

Went to Mitsubishi to get trans fluid and the service guy said they only ever drop the fluid and top it back up (facepalm!) At $45 a bottle I just bought the one, and dropped and refilled it.
Does anyone have a picture of the location of the hoses for next time ? Ill do 2 x 4L at the next service.

Changed the Engine Oil and put in Nulon Fully Synthetic (Was cheap and SN SAE Graded)

I am also really happy with the fuel economy: I am getting 13.1L/100 around town (I only do short trips) VS the 17L the commodore used to get me: It adds up at the pump I only have to put about 60 bucks a fortnight in instead of 80 odd.

Still not convinced with the stereo: It's a bit tinny. Do love the 6 stacker though.

Considering a Tyre and Wheel Package Next Time it is due: any advice on Rim Sizes that will fit, but leave me reasonable options for buying tyres (I am used to paying $120 a corner for 15's)
Also on lowering: Cost Effective options for Coil Overs ?

Hey mate, the two hoses for the trans fluid are at the bottom end of the radiator on passenger side, they are thin hoses and you can't really stuff it up.
Just squeeze the little clamp and slide hose off...if itd reddish you have the right one.
They originate near the trans filler dipstick.

I wouldn't change those rims they are the series 3 GTL wheels...very nice.

A lot of people get rims that open up the fact that the brakes then look really smallish.

Leave the rims and tyre size you have....a lot of people get it wrong.

You have 17 inch not 15 inch by the way.

As for lowering I can tell you the way i went...Koni...same as the TMR 380.

Allow 2 grand for Koni's all round.

Have a bit of a gremlin with the drivers power window. Would not open yesterday, works fine this morning. Anyone experienced this: Loose Wire/Faulty Switch, Lubrication issue ? I know the mechanisms were prone to failure but I'm not sure that that is my issue.

Symptoms of window regulator failure?

When a regulator fails in the front doors glass stays up...
the rear windows the glass drops to the bottom of the door.

Pull door trim off and replace regulator....about 150 bucks plus fitting.
most people get a dealer to do it...but its not hard if you want to have a go.

Your symptoms are early symptoms of inevitable failure.

When they supply new ones they are from the US gallant model, much better quality.

Do not buy them on eBay from wreckers etc...you will just get the Chinese ones again.

Thanks for the heads up on the parts, I will get myself a new one from the dealer. In other news, I had another weird problem that others may have come across. Check Engine Light Came on the other day. I read up that one cause was a battery close to the end of its useful life. Had the scan tool plugged in and got a CAS Error (which is commonly reported when the battery is no good... go figure). Got the battery tested and the bloke can't even get a reading from it. It looks like the original battery, and being 6 and a bit years old i think it has done its time.

With regards to the error it is random because the ECU isnt getting the right voltage so just garbage codes.

make sure the heat shield around the battery is fitted.
