Location: Brisbane,qld		Spliced in a usb cable to the SMT6 but cannot connect as the laptop has no serial port i need it to recognise usb as com1, is this possible??????????????????????????

Location: An island off southern Tasmania.		yes...for about 20 bucks you need to buy a usb to rs232 adapter..

it is exactly what I use....
